Stalled at lights - wouldn't restart

My wife was driving home from work last night in her 1992 900T vert. It was running fine until she came off the expressway and slowed down for the red light at the intersection off the expressway ramp, whereupon it just stalled out and wouldn't restart (starter would turn but engine wouldn't catch). Eventually (after about 5 minutes or more) it did restart and she managed to drive the mile or so home from there.
A couple of weeks ago it did something to me where it seemed to lose all power when I was pulling out of a side road. It was only a momentary hiccup, but after that I checked the plugs (looked good), cleaned up the battery terminals (there was a lot of oxidation) and cleaned the Hall effect sensor connection. Seemed to be OK after that.
So any thoughts? It was raining quite hard last night.
By the way, as a notice to drivers in Toledo - if there is a car sitting stationary in the road with its hazard lights flashing, no need to honk or flip off the driver. She is not choosing to sit in front of the lights like that! Eventually one driver stopped to offer to help my wife push the car out of the traffic, but just at that point she managed to restart it.
