Jedi, find a Saab mechanic, that guy does not know the B202. Just run 10w30 and change it as recommended. These cars are not prone to low oil pressure with age or mileage (honest). The ticking sound is much more likely to be a sticking lifter, those ARE pretty common with age and mileage. Sometimes you can free up a sticky lifter with thin oil like ATF or MMO (which contains lard and stoddard solvent), it's usually worth a try but replacing a bad lifer isn't a huge task. If the chain has high mileage the ticking may be due to it's being really stretched but that has nothing to do with oil pressure. You can gauge chain stretch by removing the tensioner and measuring it to see how far out is extended. If it's beyond the spec. then you need to replace the chain and you want an experienced C900 Saab tech to do that job. Most non-Saab guys won't know how to (or won't want to) roll in a new chain so they'll do it the hard way and you'll overpay for the job. Your '88 should have an internal oiling head, so no tubes and plastic knobs and should have the later spring loaded tensioner too. If it does have an external oiling head with the little tubes then a broken plastic knob will definitely cause ticking as a lifter fails to get oil. Good luck, let us know where this goes.
