I carefully and several times listened to 'Renaissance Man' (where Denny de Vito was teaching Hamlet to Double D's) when they came to Canada to see Henry V play they discussed that Canadian accent, but I didn't hear that.

I highly doubt that you can easily fit earlier styled coupler onto the later version shifter: they look to be of different lengths on the photographs + you may have to solve some fixture problems. CMyles could easily answer your question, but nowadays he's quite busy in the distillery business. I think, that replacing the rubber thing with an OEM one or going with the puck mod is much safer bet. But you can try both ways and report back.
