I ended up sanding down the mating surfaces after I spent the first couple of hours putting it all back together before I sanded it down,.,, just to find out it leaked…awesome.
The grooves for the O-ring are not affected by sanding them down (~320grit paper worked OK)…
I Found that the more annoying part was getting the rubber firewall gasket in place correctly. Missing that, in addition to the other holes thru the firewall, seem to be worse at trashing your floor than coolant.
At one point I wanted to add permatex sealant to the thing instead of these O-rings. I'd probably go that route the next time.
Why ya replacing it? leaking? Either way, I've heard that scavenging the OE source from the junkyards is always a better idea. I've had no issues with mine.
