Brake booster hose

I have an 89 900 base model that I'm working on. The brake booster hose--where it connects to the intake manifold seems kind of loose considering it's a vacuum line. I'm more familiar with the ABS 900s---I would assume it should be a pretty tight fit where the fitting goes into the intake? No perceptible play? When I started the car with the brake held---I saw smoke coming out of that area, noisy as well (not sure if that was a coincidence). If anyone's got more experience with these 80s Saabs, fill me in. Thanks.
