Yeah, Vern is right, need to be very careful if you go to replace the seal.
Several people have gotten the coiled spring inside the seal, that holds the sealing lip up against the crank, out of place, and it has dropped inside the engine. Not a good thing.
One of the tips I've read on here calls for sleeving the seal with a strip of stiff mylar that you guide around the crank, making a kind of funnel that makes sure the sealing lip doesn't jam on the crank at any point as you go to press it in. Pull it out of the seal once it's in place.
