I'd expected them to be sealed from a functional perspective, but I think they're just sealed from a packaging perspective. I can't tell any functional difference before or after surgery, though it's possible they are only sealed to account for elevation changes. Around here, at 40' above sea level, I'm not experiencing those effects. ;)
I can't understand what caused the connection to fry - that seems like a *weird* thing to happen in a low current device. Maybe an APC box failed in some weird way.
This type of pressure transducer has gone the way of the dodo in light of modern electronics. Nobody would design a resistive device anymore. The modern, solid-state equivalent of this device is current based - cheaper to manufacture and substantially more accurate. Unfortunately, the APC box doesn't understand current - and I don't know anywhere approaching enough to design a circuit that can convert current to resistance. I'm sure it's doable, but beyond my skill level.
I may just invest in a TurboXS Knocklite and replace APC with some sort of modern boost controller. I've been threatening to do it for a while, maybe now is when that happens. If it weren't for California smog laws I'd just convert the car to Trionic, but sadly that's not an option for me.
