We all mostly do our own wrenching. Others take the car to the dealer and hand over the keys... I started off life as the latter and I'm now here. To the person who does not understand and just pays the bill, the car seems finicky. To the person who understands, he just sees a problem, fixes it and moves on.
I'm not sure a Dyson is that classy or that SAAB-like. Lots of plastic, made in China? hmmm... I suppose most vacuums are that. Miele being an exception (but are they SAAB-like? I think more like old skool Merc). Certainly it is true that Dyson do things differently... almost turbo like! and there are many imitators now (like Hyundai is to SAAB)... Maybe the comparison is valid...
To me, one company that *really* is like a SAAB c900 but in another industry is Naim (especially older Naim). In the audio world, they do everything different (don't even use normal cables so their equipment is not easily interchangeable with other brands), but really really well - and built to last with a "unique" and "acquired" aesthetic. I don't think someone could successfully market a vacuum like that. They are after all just appliances - who cares much about the nuances of vacuuming eg vs driving or listening to music?
The c900 of CD players (you have to pull open the drawer and put a puck on the cd):
