1991 900 SE, I found plugged drain rubber plugs, leaks around taillights, old holes from new trim strip screws when top was replaced, a leak at bottom seam of rear glass window, and a few others I've forgotten.
----To re-glue the rear CV Window I used: 3M 08693 Auto Glass Urethane Windshield Adhesive (10.5 oz. caulk tube Polyurethane Polymer) about $13.
----For most other areas I used 3M Flexible Strip-Calk (Product Number is 08578) - I think it might be Butyl Rubber, comes in a blue box.
----I never tried the Permatex 518 anerobic gasket maker which Roger D suggests, but it most likely is very handy for this problem.
----If you decide to remove the lower black convertible screwed-on trim strip, to reseal everything properly, expect the plastic 3-piece 5/8" thick strip which the screws go into to be shot, and require replacement. It is easy enough to fabricate out of available bulk strip material, and use new stainless steel screws, with some liberal doses of a sealing material.
BUT - The biggest leak I found on both cars was around the long trunk seal which mounts on the trunk lip, and seals when the trunk is closed. If there is ANY decrease in height due to any corrosion, the water seems to wick itself up & over the metal lip, under the seal, and deliver water into the trunk. I cleaned the trunk lip with Brake Cleaner, and cleaned the inside of the seal best I could. Then I applied a nice bead of 3M Flexible Strip-Calk to the trunk lip, then I squashed the trunk seal down onto the lip, using a piece of 2" x 4" wood and a small hammer. The corners by the hinges were problem areas for corrosion. If corrosion eats 1/8" off the TOP of the lip, it acts just like a hole in the trunk lid somehow. Last winter I left the seal OFF my 1991 SE for 5-6 months, and the trunk was dry in the spring - go figure? So that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to (some) of it. Vern
