Now, this is weird....I bought a pressure plate via ebay and saw it had a ring tool in it already. I thought, cool, I'll need it later and looked at it to get it out. Oddly, it didn't budge.....then, I realized that it was a complete ring welded together, so it would have to be pushed into an oval to get it into the PP and dang near impossible to get out as it was about .060" wider than one you get from a supplier.
So, it came out in pieces and dangit, did that PP snap shut like the bear trap it is.
The only thing I can think of is that the installer thought the ring should have been continuous and should have been welded into a solid circle. Now, I'm REALLY glad I didn't just blindly put the PP into the car and try to get the ring out -- I would have needed to learn brand new Danish curse words for that fiasco.....
