A few simple things to try Posted by SaabStalker [Email] (#1098) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SaabStalker) on Fri, 6 Mar 2015 08:21:01 In Reply to: Re: Ran great, now wont start, new fuel pump & nothing, Dave Tibbetts, Thu, 5 Mar 2015 12:57:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Once you get the spark issue decided. No spark? replace the rotor first inside the distributor after you check for hall sensor wiring at the distributor. Since you claim to be a mechanical novice we can step by step the process when you are ready. If you have spark then disable the spark by removing completely the short wire in the center of the coil. It goes from the coil to the center of the distributor cap. Next get a fire extinguisher. There is a long metal tube on the drivers side of engine at the top above the intake manifold. This is the fuel rail. On the front of the fuel rail nearest the radiator is a nut or fitting. I think it is 17 mm but may be smaller, say 16 mm. Two way to loosen this. Stand on the passenger side of engine and lean over and holding fuel rail securely in Left hand use the box end of the combination wrench on the nut or fitting. (Do this right after the engine has been cranked)Use goggle to protect your eyes and even rubberized gloves if you have them. Pull the wrench towards you. Watch don't strain your back. If the fuel pump is working you should have fuel escape under pressure as soon as the fitting is loosened. Don't take it off or loosen it so much you lose the fitting. You can have a few rags there to catch the fuel, and even have wife crank the engine just don't be leaning over any spark component near the coil. You can also loosen the fitting from the drivers side by pushing on the combo wrench, but that gives less control and chances are better to skin a knuckle. If no fuel from fitting have engine cranked a long time. There is a fuel reverse check valve (not correct title)that is on the top of fuel pump that often stops working and the fuel flows back to tank instead of staying in line or fuel rail. Check it out let us know where and how we are to continue.
