The flushing procedure you mention is good advice, but this rack replacement was for a not because of morning sickness.
The main reason was that one of the high pressure hard lines from the servo to the rack had corroded through. A massive leak! I could have fashioned a replacement line, but figured that while going through the trouble to remove the rack, I might as well put one back in that has a warranty. It had torn boots and was obviously the OE rack. It held up for 250k miles, so I have no reservations about putting in this new one.
I even drove it for a month without hydraulic assistance, and honestly I could have lived with it like that. The only time it bothered me was in parking lots, but I was worried about the stresses being transmitted to the steering shaft u-joint, so in goes a new rack. It has given me a reason to conduct an archaeological dig in the driveshaft and tie rod tunnels, which unearthed such treasures as an A/C low side cap, part of a shredded power steering belt, some bits of beer bottle glass, and a quarter. That's more than Geraldo Rivera found in "Al Capone's Vaults", if you remember that one!
