It sat for a very long time and wouldn't start reliably with the key. To do a bypass start, you turn the key to RUN and, under the hood, short the hot terminal on the starter solenoid to the terminal next to it (the one that the signal from the ignition switch eventually makes its way to). That will pull in the solenoid and turn the engine over. It'll make a large spark, too.
On that car, I ran continuity tests on all of the wires to from the ignition switch, and found that everything had continuity just like it should. However, when I put the connectors back on the ignition switch, the car started normally. There was probably some corrosion on the switch pins and putting the connector back on probably abraded through it.
