You guys are the best. You've helped me so much, and saved me so many $$$
So I went to Clay at Swedish Auto Service in Novato on my way down through the Bay Area...I had a new Saab OE chain tensioner in hand, and he was able to install it on the spot for just over an hours labor...rattle gone! I am so stoked...my indy was talking about thousands to remove engine and replace chain etc...Clay was so cool, he even said that he'd be happy to consult with my indy if those guys ever needed some Saab specific guidance (which they do!)
It turns out my old tensioner was the old non-ratchet kind, it had never been replaced.
Also, I just wanted to share that I took the advice and ordered some Ohtsu FP6000's online and had them installed at a local shop (less than $350 total)...what a huge difference! I no longer feel like I need to renew my suspension...now my car is perfectly aligned, rides so much better, does not pull to one side, and the 'dead' spot in the steering is mostly gone...I really didn't know that funky old tires could cause all of those issues, and be fixed so simply.
Now I can drive fast confidently :)
