Just for the heck of it try the turn signals to see if the side marker lights blink. The electrical drawings for the direction indicators show that they're connected in the bulkhead connector to the wiring for the front turn signals for their associated sides of the car.
For the central locking issue, you're probably on the right track: an issue with the connector. You may want to spritz the contacts with contact cleaner or (for us old guys) TV Tuner cleaner to see if that helps the issue.
FWIW, if you have long skinny arms, you may also want to reach up in front of the knee bolster and wiggle the top bulkhead connector to see if that helps the locking issue. Wiring for the central locking switch goes through that. When the driver's window on my '89 SPG stops working, I reach up and wiggle the bulkhead connectors to freshen-up the contacts in the connector.
