Congratulations on deciding to do the repair yourself. Please take lots of before and after pictures and let us know how it turns out.
I've been looking at welders to deal with some of the same types of rust issues on one of my 900s, too. I think that I've settled on one of Harbor Fright's flux-core wire welders so I don't have to deal with gas canisters.
The general consensus in the multitude of user reviews for these units on HF's website is that their flux core welders are quite decent for the home user.
Another consensus from the reviews is that you want to ditch the flux-cored wire that comes with the units and buy reputable flux-core wire from a place like Lowe's or a welding supply house.
