It is actually 2-part epoxy bar finish on the originals. You can get it at many craft stores in small enough quantities. Not the easiest stuff to work with. Practice on something you don't care about. It is thick enough to wet sand smooth and polish out if you don't get it on without a couple ripples. Have a propane torch handy to get rid of any bubbles that arise. I've used it on wood shift knobs because it holds up way better to body oils than poly or lacquer.
