Super Aero Offset Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Thu, 8 Oct 2015 17:36:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I know this one has been beaten to death on the bb and I have searched the topic... but... I recently picked up a set of used super aeros, a good deal and a chance to put 16" tires on the 900. I have little interest in going to wide tires, 195 is fine. However, the rim offset looks to be an issue regardless of tires. The current (junk, not even road worthy) tires that came on the rims are 205's and they definitely stick out of the wheel wells.
So according to the saab wheel page (link below), "SAAB decreased the offset as the rim got wider in order to maintain the same backset."
So some have talked about milling off the back of the hub part of the rim to reduce the offset, but wouldn't that risk rubbing against the calipers? Or do people sometimes mill the outside edge? I don't think I would bother with either, but I'm just trying to decide at this point if I should stick with the rims or resell them - really not interested in rubbing and the back end of the car already sags (something to fix, but in the meantime, I'd rather not rub/damage paint or trim - we live in the rust belt)... If there is no room for more backset, it sounds like the wheel well simply can't support a wider tire/wheel...
Finally, does the offset have any affect on alignment? iirc the difference in offset is about 11mm.
