Maybe not the headgasket ... Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Tue, 10 Nov 2015 09:18:44 In Reply to: headgasket oil leak, Dave, Mon, 9 Nov 2015 17:48:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Do the cheap stuff first.
I'd suspect a couple of different things before even thinking about the head gasket ....
Top of the list: Distributor O-ring. This seals the distributor to the head. They tend to hard and shrink after a decade or so of engine heat and let oil leak past and drip on front of the exhaust manifold.
- It's an easy removal and replacement but you'll want to be very careful with the electrical connector on the distributor.
- Be careful not to scratch the distributor (or cut your fingers with sharp objects) when removing the hardened O-ring.
- Lubricate the O-ring after you've put it in the distributor groove to make it easy to push in.
- Re-time to spec.
Rear plate (which is at the front of the engine) passenger side upper bolt. I usually find that that bolt has loosened.
Bets are that it's the O-Ring.
