Hello & thanks very much for the replies & kind offer of help. I spent time today cleaning up the engine bay & thought I`d check over all the battery cable leads. I cleaned & refitted the starter connections, the earth point on front crossmember & lastly the earth point at the front of the gearbox. When I undid this last one, the bolt threads were caked with white powder from corroded aluminium & the face where the cable connector sat was also powdery. A thorough clean & of course the starter is spinning faster, I expect there is something nearer 12V at the coil & it`s firing up within 2 seconds!
That is my sort of electrical work!
Might be worth including a good clean up of these connections as part of an annual service.
Thanks again, also for the cold weather you are having on the Eastern seaboard - apparently it`s pushing tropical air up to us on this side of the pond, all work done today in a T shirt!
