Cooling Fan blowing fuses & always on?

I'm down to one remaining issue (for now) on my 86 SPG restoration project. My cooling fans are coming on almost immediately after ignition. They work like this for a few days then the fuse blows and they shut off, sometimes while on the road putting me at risk of overheating. I've replaced the temp sender and the fan switch (92 deg model) but it seems not to have changed the behavior of the fans. I've checked the wiring I can see (a lot of it is hidden in a wiring loom) and not found any bare wires or anything obvious that would create a short and blow the fuse.
The car used to run very cool (about a quarter way up the gauge) when I bought it and only began to act this way after I removed the driver side fan to get at the clutch slave. Now I'm running at a more normal temp (gauge at about half way up) but with the fan issues.
Any similar stories/solutions out there? Thanks!
