Most of the upper mileage engines I've seen seep oil at that head/block junction. The first HG I did (20 years ago) went on dry. A year or two later I started seeing oil there. (car is still running around Iowa last I heard) I then found out that SOP at the dealer is to smear a film of aerobic sealant on the HG in that location before re-installing the head. Haven't seen leakage there on my subsequent HG jobs. I just finished a HG on my 1990T with 120K. I had the engine out for a trans swap and only did the gasket because the engine was right there in front of me and it was oily below #4 like you describe. Engine was running great, has 170-175 compression and the OE HG came out looking fine.
