Another symptom, another thing to check... Posted by walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from walt) on Tue, 13 Sep 2016 19:44:27 In Reply to: Re: Hesitation Followup, AndrewB, Tue, 13 Sep 2016 17:47:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Maybe the harmonic balancer pulley (aka: crankshaft pulley) that drives the twin V-belts for alternator and water pump is slipping after it warms up, unless you've replaced that already when fixing an oil pump O-ring and front crankshaft oil seal leak already. The pulleys that drive alternator and water pump and power steering pump are isolated by rubber layer from center part of balancer which is bolted to nose of crankshaft. A/C pulley is mounted by 3 bolts to center part of balancer. To see if slippage is occurring, mark in a line with chalk, liquid paper or whatever the edges of A/C pulley and alternator/water pump pulleys. Run the car for a while. Then turn it off and see if the marked lines on the pulleys are still in a line. If not, then balancer needs to be replaced because it's not turning alternator fast enough at idle speed to maintain current and voltage.
