I purchased the Eeuro T5 kit over a year ago, and I finally got around to installing it in my 85 turbo 5 speed. Some of the engine harness was beginning to corrode away, and this kit looked to be the answer to my prayers. I had a mechanic put in the flywheel and sensor, then I began swapping out the harnesses. Everything installed pretty easily except for one minor setback - the instrument cluster wiring. Blue wire to the tach is there and hooked into the new harness, but the car has no speed signal from the old style speedo, and I don't think there's a wire for a check engine light. I've never seen one come on, so I just connect the tach wire and try to fire it up.
With the key on I hear the fuel pump running which is good, but then I crank away and nothing happens. It turns over and sounds like it wants to start, but never does. I can smell fuel from the tailpipe, so I assume the injectors are working OK. I double and triple check the wiring and everything is going to the correct places. The engine is all buttoned up, and hoses are connected and tight. I'm at a loss as to why it won't start. Would not having something connected to the check engine light make it not start? Could the mechanic have indexed the flywheel incorrectly, making the computer think the timing was different?
Thank you in advance, and I welcome any and all suggestions.
