Built my dream car 86 SPG 4 speed transmission, pretty fast. Ripped the teeth out of 3rd gear, should I put a scanwest transmission back in or build a 9000 5-speed. I've had a lot of fun with the 900, always wanted to build a 9000. The transmission for the 900 would be a lot of money. Would I be able to build a better 9000. Or what I run into the same problems end up building it with too much horsepower and tearing up Transmissions. I'm really easy on Transmissions I don't speed shift or any of that kind of stuff but what kind of horsepower can the 9000 transmission hold up to. The 900 held up for almost 8,000 miles with a 1978 4 speed that was rebuilt by Erickson's I only got on it in 3rd and 4th gear unfortunately 3rd gear has chewed up its teeth. I'm just worried that around 350 horsepower in the 900 the scanwest transmission may not hold up just looking for some opinions on my new project. What kind of horsepower numbers can I get out of a 9000 and it be durable. I know I should probably switch up to the 9-5 just never been a big fan. Just looking for some insight to what other people have done to 9000s I guess. I just picked one up for 500 bucks its a 97 9000 CSE with an automatic would love to do a 5-speed swap in it. Would probably send that transmission to scanwest and have them build it. Thanks
