Hello,
It is very abnormal for this engine to have valve problems especially at that mileage. If you really believe there is a valve issue I would start with a leak down test. Depending what is found there would make the next move. I may actually hook the car up to an old emission analyzer to check CO and HC values from the tailpipe. I guess that also brings up the question of what type of replacement cat was installed in the car. Some of the aftermarket options are barely adequate. Good Luck, Bernie
