So I bought some Bougicord plug wires, NGK plugs, Bosch cap and rotor and replaced existing parts. It wasn't a trivial transplant operation since it involved nearly simultaneous removal of all existing ignition wiring parts and I greatly feared messing-up the firing order so I carefully labelled the new cap connectors to indicate corresponding cylinder/plug connections, took my time, and gotter done. The old plugs were a bit gray and, in a post mortem analysis, I found that the minimum gap was .035, one was >0.040, so there's that. The contacts within the distributor cap and on the rotor were noticeably carboned-up so it seems clear that it had been a while since those parts had been replaced (my bad). She might run a bit better now, but not remarkably so; my sincerest hope is that the $100 or so investment in replacement parts will prevent another stall during a torrential downpour but I'm not going out of my way to test that hypothesis.
