I have the factory service manuals for at least a couple years of c900, and each provides a chart showing rpm vs. timing chart in the Electrical/Ignition section. The verbiage is:
"The amplifier also monitors and controls the dwell angle."
Obviously dwell and advance aren't exactly the same thing, but the end result is similar... a variable dwell angle results in a variable advance.
Really, I don't see how fully static timing could ever work on an engine. As piston speeds increase, spark needs to happen relatively earlier or the flame front will be chasing the piston down the bore... you'll end up with a few hundred RPM of usable power. It'd become undrivable quickly.
I mean, if nothing else, if timing was static then setting ignition timing would just be 16 degrees, not 16 degrees at 850rpm, right?
I'm sure the advance is pretty narrow, but it must exist. It's just electronic, not mechanical, like most '80s fuel injected cars.
