I dismissed the Delphi brand immediately. As far as rebuilding, let me share a somewhat connected story: The rubber o-ring on my wooden shifter knob finally broke after 24 years of service. I work in the car business as an autobody tech, so I asked one of our techs in the mechanic's shop if they had a selection of O-rings that I could look thru for a replacement. He brought me to a nice blue plastic box that must've had 20 different size O-rings on plastic pegs, so they were all in there in an orderly fashion to choose from. I found the one that fit and thanked him. Put it on my shifter knob on Monday last week. Very hot here in CT this past week. Car sat with top down in company's pkg lot every day while I worked. Came out to the car Friday, and the o-ring was gone. Looked around and there it was on the passenger floor mat...split. The original lasted 24 years. The replacement lasted 4 days. I asked the mechanic, and was told that the box of O-rings couldn't be more than two years old. I guess what I'm saying is: Because of the work involved, and this experience, I'm not too trusting of the quality of ANYTHING new. Both the slaves I asked about are NOS items that have been on the shelf for a while. Neither are made with today's crappy standards. One of the two, or an ORIGINAL NOS SAAB master are the only options I'm considering currently...and I can't find a SAAB original, so..... Which one?
