OIl under Front Passenger Side Carpet!!?? Posted by juanm [Email] (#201) [Profile/Gallery] (more from juanm) on Sun, 25 Aug 2019 05:41:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 1992 Saab 900S (non-turbo). I have owned it about three years. The car is in great running condition and has no rust. I don't know of any oil leaks. I have had WATER leaks from the skylight (on the driver's side) and water leaks from perhaps bad door window seals.
My car did have a functioning A/C system but it had been disconnected by the previous owner and he just said it didn't work and was like that when he got it. I never explored this.
Yesterday, I was vacuuming the carpets and noticed (for the first time) that there was a lump in the carpet (or actually under the carpet. So I pulled up the carpet to find that the spongey pad under the car was folded over. So as I unfolded the carpet, I noticed the bottom side had a brown liquid on it. I then noticed that there was a brown liquid under the carpet on top of the steel flooring. I touched it and looked at my finger. It was oil. It looked and felt like motor oil NOT anything water-based or coolant.
I soaked it up with a rag and then I noticed under the car there was a small pool of oil on my driveway. It came from an open drain under the passenger side. I guess when I mopped up the oil under the passenger carpet I must have push some oil towards that drain. It was late and I wasn't able to check this further and won't be able to do so until at least tomorrow.
What source of (motor or other) oil could have leaked on the passenger side and found its way underneath my carpet???? There was no apparent oil odor in the car and I don't know of any excess usage of any lubricant or fluids in my car. Related to non-functioning A/C???
Another Saab mystery story. I hope someone spilled a container it long ago and never cleaned it up.
Thanks for your input.
