So,if I think about this, the amount of oil in an oil change would be less for a non oil cooler car. You could block off the oil filter adapter and the resident oil would be guessing about 8 ounces, so not much. However, that to me means you would then reduce the amount of oil input by the amount that the oil cooler and lines total in volume.
Personally, I would run as much oil in the sump as you can if it doesn't end up on the ground. Oil is the major heat exchange media for the lower end, if you rely on conduction, the engine is doomed......
As an experiment, the guys at Mile High in Denver took an 8 valve engine, drained the oil. Turned it on, and it ran a total of 18 minutes with zero pressure until it just stopped. Tough little beasts.....
