Yes; that is what the tool is for...
Good idea as well. I've used a c clamp before, yet with a big nut(not to tighten, but to give space) over the large part of the pin. I think it only worked once for me, for the c clamp tends to slip.
That factory tool works so great, perfectly slim and sits perfectly on the shift rod, with a long screw. It popped the pin out every time.
That shift pin can be a pain in the rump. i recall once having to drill one out, and the drill bit broke. It was a 99, so it didn't have the circular clamp found in the later 900s. I'm not a big fan with messing with the clamp, for then one has to reset the shifter.
Sure it is a minor, just that tool worked qell. I'll make one. But if Kent moore still made tools, i would buy one even for a 100.00. I think i paid 50.00 for the one that I had.
