Hi. Well, I am trying to chase down an issue with my 91 turbo convt, a MCY SE model with 370K miles. I had thought that maybe the head gasket was leaking as I am consuming coolant--I need to refill the overflow about every 2-4 days and I am blowing a sweetish white cloud out the exhaust. But now it looks almost like the leak is also coming from the turbo housing, and it is leaking radiator fluid right below the unit, onto the floor. So I am wondering if the water jacket around turbo bearing is leaking into the turbo itself, such that the fluid is being "pumped" by the turbo into the intake system and into the engine where it is burned. This is the original turbo and gives good boost.
I guess the other possibility is the head gasket is leaking into the cylinders and the burnt coolant in the exhaust is collecting in the turbo unit and seeping out. I know there is a coolant pipe to the bearing jacket and that could be leaking, but the fact that coolant is getting burned suggests that a coolant pipe leak there isn't the real culprit.
I had the head gasket replaced like 18 months ago or so, so I would not expect it to leak. Thoughts??? Thanks!
btw my indy Saab mechanic retired so I am trying to figure out what to do with this beast.
