I just did this job last week (hose nipples became brittle and I broke one on an alternator swap). I've found the best/easiest way to do things is to pull the four long dash screws, then you can wiggle forward the knob/radio section just enough to clear the rod (working through the speaker hole). Remove/insert the valve through the speaker hole, and tighten/loosen the four bolts working up from below (around the pedals). While a 'fiddly' job, it's not that bad and can be done in an hour.
