Gary,
Thanks a bunch for your response. It's first clear and concise info on this subject I have seen yet, and makes perfect sense. Looks like I'll save my existing 8 5/8" Sachs clutch plate for my 94 900 convertible (non-Turbo) and look for a full 9" replacement for my 91 Turbo Convertible if and when I should need it. Looking through the service records that came with the 94 900S, looks like the clutch was replaced at 31,200 miles, Oct 96 at a Saab Dealership. As such, I suspect it has an 8 1/2" clutch plate. I now have 110,000 on it and I don't detect any issues yet.
I'm assuming that if one varies from exact clutch plate sizes in accordance with the parameters in your response, the existing pressure plates would still properly work not withstanding any inherent problem with them??
