I am happy to report that the car is no longer over heating after installing a new radiator, thermostat, and fan switch. Thanks so much to everyone that responded to this thread.
I did not touch the hoses because they are all original and in great condition. I was surprised, however, to see a very very small leak coming from the lower radiator hose. One drop noticeable after driving for 30 minutes. I will try to tighten the clamp more and see if that stops the leak.
Also, I was surprised to see how much more fluid the car needed after driving following the coolant flush. The coolant level dropped from max to min after the last step in the Townsend instructions - run fan again after complete cool down.
I do see a small amount of liquid under the car under the radiator, but I suspect it's the A/C; no visible signs of coolant leakage except for the one drop from the lower radiator hose. I'll monitor it closely to make sure that it's not a significant leak. (Update: the leak is due to washer fluid; must have ruptured a washer hose when installing the radiator.)
