Hey PaulS
That circlip/snap ring was a real bitch. I even went to two auto chain stores and two hardware stores looking for the correct pliers but to no avail.
The Saabits link I got from Bernie had the rebuild kit that included a new cap. I scoured the net but could not find any other rebuild kit that also contained that part.
To remove the original, I drilled a small hole in the center of the cap and then screwed a screw into it which cleanly pushed the cap out. The handbrake shaft that the screw bottomed out on is quite robust and was virtually undamaged. Scratched at most.
The cap was also still usable. It still fit snugly and would require me tapping it in with a socket and hammer but since I had a new one, I didn't re-use it.
You would of course, have to seal the small hole with either sealant or JB weld or something but it is completely usable.
I would seal the hole prior to re-installing in case you apply too much and get it on the handbrake lever shaft which would then either twist it free or do nothing.
I've posted a pic of the cap with the screw but you probably have to right click on it and open in a new tab for some reason.

Thanks!
