SAAB Fuel Pump Assembly 5328653 - Proparts 23348653
I have the pump out- there is (what i have been told) a small venturi pump on the side of the canister, that, from my understanding is what keeps the canister full of fuel/ primes the electric pump. the pressure line from the electric cartridge goes to a "T", with one side going to the fuel rail, and the other side going to the venturi pump. you can see this in a photo of the assembly.
even when the old pump assembly was in the car (the one that i just pulled out), the electric pump would not pick up fuel unless there was approx a quarter tank of gas, as fuel would (apparently) not fill the canister via atmospheric pressure through the input "sock", but had to flow into the canister through the openings around the top of the canister -otherwise the car ran fine until the electric cartridge died.
i was recently told by a vendor that there is a check valve in the line from the "T" to the venturi pump. I am wondering if this is true, and if so, if the check valve was bad, allowing fuel pressure to bleed off, and hence no start or prime with low fuel in the tank. i realize that the external fitting connecting the pump assembly to the pressure line to the rail is a check valve as well.
i never knew about the other internal check valve the vendor is describing- wondering if this is correct info.
