I've done something similar with a fuel-pump cut-off switch but I wanted it very close to the key and yet still hidden.
So the switch is hidden under the front-right side of the shifter boot so you can feel it (push-button, pointing upwards) but you can't see it without peeling the boot up.
It's a simple interrupt to the wire feeding the pump.
Back when I was dating a woman who lived in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood, I'd set the switch before leaving the car.
Don't use it much anymore but it's there when needed.
