The brake lights on my 1991 convertible went out again (except for the high-mount center one).
My understanding is that it's corrosion in the circuit board that's part of the left tail light assembly. In looking through posts here, I came across a reference to the Townsend ground fix article http://townsendimports.com/Web/electrical_system_folder/lightground4door.htm
At this point, I'm not experiencing the other "strange things" related to this, but I'd like to try cleaning things up anyway.
My usual tech says, "Just wiggle the wires" but I tried that with no luck.
I have a question about the first paragraph of the Townsend article, which says:
Raise the trunk bottom panel and secure it so you can work. Remove the two plastic clips retaining the cardboard cover across the rear of the trunk. The clips are in the bottom corners and will just pull out. Go to the left tail light assembly and remove the connector from the assembly. Release the assembly by pressing the two tabs on its sides. Do the same for the right assembly.
It's not clear to me how to "remove the connector from the assembly." To me, it looks as if the individual wires just push into sockets. See the picture. I don't want to start prying or pulling on things without knowing what I'm doing.
Is there a really "connector" that can be removed from the "assembly"? Is so, what's the safest way to do it without breaking it?
And by the way, what's a good way to "secure [the trunk bottom panel" so you can work?
