Oil spray bars popping out.. Posted by Rose quartz 87 [Email] (#2119) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rose quartz 87) on Wed, 23 Mar 2022 12:20:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Last query from me for a while, I promise!
Due to the timing chain noise and the fact that the cam followers are making quite a racket even when warm, I've had a look at the spray bars in the head.
The noisey lifters are on intake and exhaust on cylinders 2 and 3. I pressed on the bracket on the spray bars above those cylinders and I could press them in and re seat them. It seems as though they had lifted slightly. My guess is that they aren't supplying enough oil to the followers, even with what appears to be good oil pressure. (Oil pressure was tested before valve cover removal and it's at 58psi cold idle, coming down to going between 19 and 20psi when warm, 50 psi with warm engine at 2k rpm).
The spray bar brackets were renewed as part of a head gasket kit when I resealed the motor some 5 years ago. I'm tempted to take them out and reinstall them to try and get them to seat properly. Is this possible, or should they be replaced?
Thanks for reading.
