> I have been chasing this knock light for a month

I wrote this last week in another thread - thought I would update.

For about a month I have had intermittent knocking under load, especially above 4PSI. I fixed some air leaks, I replaced my very dirty fuel filter, I adjusted my AMM to be correct, I retarded the timing a few extra degrees, started using the 94 at the gas station and while all of those may have improved the car - I was still intermittent getting intermittent knock.

by 'intermittent knocking' I specifically mean my APC knock light was going off and holding my boost back. I did not ever hear audible bad knock or pinging.

I had hard starts the last few mornings - and stumbling afterward. And my knock was happening all the time. Like, even at partial vacuum I was knocking. Pretty strange to me, but it had been wet and it was cold, I checked the cap and rotor.

Cap and rotor were toast. Cap was totally corroded and worn out. I ordered a new set of cap and rotors. Bosch 04168 and Bosch 03010.

I installed the said cap and rotor and now my car boost perfectly up until the red. I had a momentary knock at the red line, but I probably should now go back and recheck everything else. I had

As usual I am just writing in notes here so other people who google 'APC Light Knocking" get more results.

So yes - a bad cap and rotor can cause knock, and sometimes you should believe the APC system rather than just assuming that the APC itself was acting up. Do not neglect maintenance.

I recommend sticking with the OEM cap and rotor if you can spring for the extra cash. It's not world ending using the knock off, but the Bosch ones I think are better.
