There currently are racks available on EBay at $400+ and I think you can currently get a Cardone rebuilt unit from Advance Auto for <$200. I don't know anything about the quality of these units, but personally I've always gone with a MAVAL (these ARE hard to find) and always keep one in reserve (if I can).
Extra boots and rebuild kits are readily available. I've never done this myself, but understand from friends that have done them that it is not too hard (assuming the rack is rebuildable). I will try rebuilding mine the next time it goes.
I good quick fix is adding a full bottle of Lucas power steering sealer. Mine started leaking last summer and I used a bottle of Lucas and it sealed it right up. I currently have about 90,000 on my MAVAL rebuild. It's pretty common for the Lucas trick to buy you an extra year or 10,000 to 15,000 miles if you add it as soon as it starts leaking. I've used it to buy time waiting for a batch of MAVAL racks to some out (generally MAVAL racks turn up once every couple of years - I search for them daily on EBAY.
Good luck
