John Schreiber recalled some things I had forgotten, such as the magnets on the drive shaft. As I recall, the magnets were held on the shaft by a heavy duty zip tie, but epoxy would be more durable. In spite of what another person had said, my cruise control lasted over 20 years and 200,000 miles before the car went to the junk yard because of rust. It’s not that complicated so if the control unit and vacuum server are still working it might be possible to get the cruise functioning. I also recall there was a vacuum storage bottle, about a liter in size, mounted in the right fender to maintain the vacuum for the servo. The vacuum hoses to the clutch and brake pedals and that vacuum bottle are also sources of problems. This was pretty much how cruise control worked before drive by wire throttle bodies could provide the throttle control.
