R134a is very sensitive to proper charge Posted by DET17 [Email] (#1254) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DET17) on Mon, 7 Aug 2023 11:26:08 In Reply to: Re: Temperature and humidity dependent, Goblin [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 6 Aug 2023 12:16:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Over/Under charge will definitely cause issues. That is the nature of this replacement refrigerant.... whereas R12 was pretty robust & less sensitive, this new gas won't provide near the target delta T unless the charge weight is correct. The optimum is a peak more than a wide band.
I weigh each can full/empty, then keep a running tally of what I've put into the system. Don't forget to empty your charge hose of AIR before connecting. Must have as near to pure refrigerant in the system to get the proper evaporation. Your goal is to be slightly superheated when the gas leaves the evaporator.... you don't want liquid to reach your compressor and being slightly superheated guarantees this. Exit temp should be just slightly higher than evaporator arriving temp as the gas is in phase change and you want to boil all of it plus a bit more to enter superheat.
New filter dryer, also recommended. If your system is guten-tight (DIN standard) then it will hold vacuum for at least 15 minutes without moving the vacuum needle.
My dad was a refrigeration man for the last 20 years of his career.... a bit of it was passed onto the son!
