Normally a NEW compressor needs a specific amount of oil added to it prior to charging and evacuating. I always add the spec amount of oil into the compressor and put the balance into the condenser to meet the system total; then charge refrigerant by weight using a scale on each can.
So long as the compressor was factory sealed and plugged, I'm betting the 20 year shelf ride did not cause any degradation (they have protective lube from the factory, but not oil in my experience).
If it squeals continuously, that doesn't sound right. If the noise occurs only when the clutch is engaged and the AC is cycling, it could be the drive belt. They all buzz to a certain degree but a continuous squeal is not acceptable.
