I've routinely used the smallest jeweler's-style flat-headed screwdriver from kits like the attached pic. Carefully slide the screwdriver tip down the sides of whatever EV1 connector that you're disconnecting; this will mash the tabs down to the sides of the connector. If done correctly, the terminal will slide out of the housing with the tabs neatly folded down the sides of the terminal.
You'll have to pry them back out and angle correctly when it's time to re-insert the terminal back into the housing.
