I removed the two bolts/nuts in the flywheel housing and the two bolts on the mounting bracket under the intake manifold.

I wasn't aware there might be other fasteners holding the starter...

I'm concerned that the starter teeth are stuck in the flywheel. But the noise I was getting from the starter was at the end of cranking when the car started. I didn't hear anything that would indicate the starter was stuck in the position with the starter gears out.

I will try turning the crankshaft a bit manually to see if things are free to turn.

Any other ideas are welcome.
