Distributor Question Posted by rreid [Email] (#3508) [Profile/Gallery]

When I got my 1990 SPG, it had an older distributor (ending numbers of 007) with an oval plug installed in place of the original type with the square plug. The original wiring had been cut and a pigtail from the older oval plug wiring spliced in place. In an effort to get it back to original, I picked up a distributor (...010 end numbers) that would have been original on the car. Rust was apparent, so I dug into it and after fighting to release various pieces from their rusty counterparts, and still leaving the Hall Effect sensor parts intact (no easy task for my fumble fingers), I was successful at complete disassembly. I installed a new oil seal in the bottom of the main distributor body and got everything back together. My question is - Is the little plastic shield over the Hall Effect wiring free floating? It has tabs sticking downwards to create the space for the wires, but there is no connection and it is fairly loose under the reluctor wheel.
Thanks for any insight.
