Right, I have also heard the same about the loose tolerances in late cars due to worn out tooling. I have not seen any sign of a crash in this car, and I have been all through it every which way.
So, lacking an Enerpac or Portapower, I used a piece of scrap 8020 aluminum extrusion from work and a scissor jack from a junkyard 9-5. I loosened the bolts holding the cross member in place and gave it a couple of cranks. In total, I think I widened the base of the windshield by about 5mm. I tightened down the bolts and it stayed. I will have to readjust the hood and the doors, but I think now the panel fit should rival that of my old '86 I used to have. It was embarrassing to have the thing going around with the panel gaps like a damn tesla.
Now with everything out, I'm thinking maybe I should get a new windshield (while anyone still has them). I have a good used gasket, with the tabs that get screwed down, to replace my old one which does not leak but is a little ragged in spots.
